My ServiceNow Story: Kali Alexander, GlideFast Technical Trainer and ServiceNow Rising Star

The team at GlideFast Consulting is full of passionate, skilled, and enthusiastic developers and architects. If there is one thing that we all have in common, it is our love for the ServiceNow platform and community. “My ServiceNow Story” is a blog series that will give you an inside look of the work and lives of the consultants at GlideFast Consulting and how they started and built their careers in the industry. Our consultants will share their stories with you and will lead you down the path that brought them to where they are today.

This ServiceNow Story features Kali Alexander, GlideFast Technical Trainer and ServiceNow Rising Star, based out of Los Angeles, California.

How were you first introduced to ServiceNow? What was your first job using the platform?

It was last summer during a conversation with my sister, who works for a government agency, when I first learned of the platform. Her organization was looking for an automation solution and they landed on ServiceNow. She knew I was looking for a career pivot since my children were all just about done with school and told me that because of the way my brain works that she thought I should check it out. I dove in head-first — eating ServiceNow for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

What other jobs have you had working with ServiceNow?

This is my first, but I started learning ServiceNow by hacking my own boot camp.

I wasn't selected for a ServiceNow NextGen cohort and the boot camps were not a good fit for me. So I researched the syllabi for those programs and compiled all the content I needed to learn. The only piece that I wasn't able to replicate was setting up interviews with potential employers.

So I started learning out loud on LinkedIn, since this is the place where potential employers network. I created the hashtag #100daysofservicenow and began livestreaming my learnings. From this, I found mentors, other learners of the platform, and ultimately Michael Lombardo, who offered me a role at GlideFast. I continue producing the #100daysofservicenow streams with a mix of content including Live ServiceNow Coaching where I invite new folks looking to break into the ecosystem to be coached by seasoned vets of the platform. It's a great opportunity to share my platform with other folks who are looking for their first role and a ready-made avenue for the vets to give back. It's a win for all of us.

What are your primary ServiceNow skills?

I earned my Certified System Administrator certificate and am currently learning development and SPM.

What are your plans for the future in your career and in the ServiceNow industry?

At GlideFast, my growth potential is unlimited. I have my sights set on becoming a Technical Architect and growing in leadership roles at the company.
